[Opinion] Software engineers, you have 5 days left
Software engineers, you have 5 days left and then you're gone. 14 March 2025, Amodei said that AI would write all the software in 12 months. That's five days from now! From that small beginning a horde of wannabe thought leaders and gurus conflated "writing code" with "software engineering" and dragged us into endless doom loops about how software engineers are finished. They are now mostly complaining that anyone not accepting this is a dinosaur, while insisting they were right all along because "things will change".
Newsflash: it's almost impossible to find anyone who actually argued that things wouldn't change. They are a mythical tribe, an illusion created by thought leaders to spar against. What isn't mythical are the deranged prognostications we've had to listen to for the past year.
So, prepare to disappear. AI is going to be doing it all. In five days. Or not.
Maybe we should just rename "Software Engineers" to "AI wranglers" and be done with it? That at least would be a more apt description of what is happening. "Vibe coding" is such a useless term.
Have some meaningless slop instead. Hmmm, maybe I should mint these as NFTs ... to the moon!
